Stephen has worked in education for over 20 years, initially as a teacher in the compulsory school sector, and then in Higher Education as a developer of innovative online programmes. He has particular experience in curriculum design and development to meet the needs of learners in the workplace and the use of inquiry-based approaches to learning, and patchwork text as a form of assessment. He has developed and managed numerous projects in higher education working with colleagues to develop new taught provision and improve institutions educational systems and processes using action research and systems thinking.
Dr. Roz Fox (June 2015): Transformative Community Engagement for Sustainable Regeneration. An inquiry using an action research approach in a deprived community in the North West of England.
Dr. Richard Millwood (November 2014): The Design of Learner-centred, Technology-enhanced Education. A retrospective PhD by practice focussed on an analysis and evaluation of work practices and ideas developed over a 30 year period.
In progress… Ian Wilkinson: Improving the quality of products for blind and partially sighted people. A work-place inquiry using an action research approach in the Royal National Institute for the Blind.
Current research interests include innovation and models of change in higher education and the role of programme leaders as change agents.
