Academic Practice Development

CeLT offers opportunities to develop your skills and understanding - whether you are new to teaching or have been lecturing for twenty years

Please note: CeLT is responsible for the PGCert/Dip/MA in Academic Practice as part of our staff development provision for MMU staff and those working in partner organisations. If you have a query relating to Initial Teacher Training or professional development for teachers, you should refer to the website of MMU's Institute of Education.

The Centre for Learning and Teaching works in partnership with individuals, programme teams and colleagues across the University to secure a consistent, high quality student experience and to provide professional academic development for staff involved in teaching and supporting student learning, Our work reflects the University’s commitment to the development of all its staff and is shaped by the University’s Strategic Framework for Learning and Teaching and Assessment and by organisational and individual goals and objectives.

  • Master of Arts in Academic Practice

The Academic Practice Development (APD) Framework also offers a Master of Arts in Academic Practice with an exit point at Post Graduate Diploma level (PG Dip). Participants may choose to take units with assessment to gain academic credits towards these awards, or they may simply attend, participate and record professional development to gain credit in their Record of Continuing Professional Development. • Short courses

CeLT’s short courses (units) are part of a series of programmes designed to be undertaken by staff as part of their professional development. They can be taken as “stand alone” APD programmes, or, subject to successful completion of the unit assessment, they enable staff to gain 10 M level credits towards the Master of Arts in Academic Practice programme. These courses also provide an opportunity to gain APD recognition subject to a short piece of reflective writing. The courses normally consist of four half days and participants are expected to commit to attend all of the sessions within their chosen programme. Further details and booking
