“New to Teaching” (or NewT) is a unit designed to help you develop your teaching skills in a supportive environment. NewT can be taken as a standalone unit or together with its partner unit Learning Theory and Practice.
NewT can be taken with assessment for 10 M level academic credits or without assessment for continuing professional development purposes. The focus is on practical techniques for planning and delivering your teaching and assessment activities. You will work interactively with colleagues from across the university, facilitated by experienced staff from MMU’s Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching.
After completing the course, you will be able to:
We are running this unit over 4 weeks, twice in the next academic year; please see the online booking page for full details.
The cost of taking NewT as a ten credit unit with assessment is £222.50. There is no cost to attend NewT if you do not plan to take the assessed route. Places are limited so book early. We recommend that you check with your line manager or supervisor before you book a place on NewT, especially if you want to secure funding to undertake the assessment. The Research, Enterprise and Development unit will pay travel expenses for NewT students based at MMU Cheshire to attend the face-to-face sessions.
You should discuss this with your line manager if you are hoping to progress onto the PGC AP.
If you successfully complete the NewT unit and its companion unit, Learning Theory in Practice, you can apply to join the university’s PGC AP with 20 credits already complete.
