Continuing Professional Development Opportunities

The great thing about working at Manchester Met is that the CPD opportunities available are free of charge and open to all academics irrespective of contractual status. You do not have to pay fees to engage with the CPD available, nor is there a cost to your department. Here are some of the opportunities available:

Workshops and Short Courses

There is a comprehensive learning and teaching workshop programme available covering key topics such as assessment, personal tutoring and delivering sessions. You can search for sessions on topic areas, to help you to find sessions of particular interest. Alternatively, you can look for sessions as per your role/career state e.g.

  • new to teaching
  • new to MMU
  • Experienced academic

We also offer a wide range of workshops and short courses for all staff

CPD Programmes

The CPD route planner is a great starting point for helping you to make plans for your professional development.

If you are teaching more than 4 hours per week, planning your session and marking students work then you are eligible to enrol on the Post-graduate certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (PGCLTHE). You will start this by taking a unit called Introduction to Learning, Teaching and Assessment (ILTA) and you can take it from there.

If you teach fewer than 4 hours per week or do not plan or mark students work then you can enrol on the TALENT unit, which covers key topics such as planning and delivering sessions.
