Project Details

Screencasts and podcasts can be used in a variety of ways to enhance learning and teaching. In this example, Dr. Paul Smith, Senior Lecturer in Chemistry, describes using pre-lecture screencasts to help students engage with the lecture material. Each about 15 minutes long, these pre-lecture screencasts cover the main points of the lecture and are available on Moodle prior to each lecture. Students have used them throughout the year, returning to them before exams for revision. In lectures, Paul has noticed that students who use the screencasts, are more willing to participate in discussion and answer questions, solve problems together, creating a more interactive learning and teaching environment.
