Project Details

Amanda Langdown, Senior Lecturer in Fashion Design, taught on a unit called ‘Research and Design’, a core unit for level 4 Fashion Design students. It is divided into themed projects for students to select according to their interests. Having published research on sustainability in fashion, Amanda took the Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) unit from the MMU MA in Higher Education. This led her redesigning a project to embed Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) into the Fashion curriculum which became a new unit.

Features of the unit include guest speakers, who shared their practice with students in relation to sustainability, as well as collaborative groups that created an online magazine as well as the swapshop in collaboration with the Environment Team.

Amanda reflects on how she designed the project, and what the benefits this approach had on student learning.
